Newbury Youth Theatre aims to provide local young people with the opportunity to develop their theatrical skills and interests, explore the arts in general and learn more about themselves as individuals.
Founded in 1983, NYT has at its heart the mission to focus upon plays which reflect the concerns and issues of young people today and to present these to new and existing audiences in new and exciting ways. In this way the group are tackling contemporary issues which are relevant to their own experiences and the members learn more about themselves as well as making a rich contribution to the town's cultural life. The company has, through this work, gained much critical acclaim locally and nationally.
NYT provides a wide range of activities from weekly workshops and theatre visits, to technical courses, directing and work experience placements.
There are no auditions or restriction on membership apart from a level of commitment from members to support each other, have energy, enthusiasm and a love of theatre.
All NYT Tutors and Directors are fully qualified Drama specialists and have CRB clearance.
