Welcome to NYT
NYT is the resident youth theatre company of the Corn Exchange in Newbury. It’s celebrating its 26th year and aims to provide local young people aged 14 – 21 with the opportunity to develop their theatrical skills and explore the Arts in general. Above all it’s fun NYT has commissioned and devised new plays, which have gained critical acclaim both locally, nationally and internationally. The 2009 Lost Letters of Mr Corrigan was awarded the Three Week's Editor's Award and gained 5 stars and it was The Stage's 'Must See' show. Our production of The Control Experiment has been performed in Los Angeles, Hope Springs (2006) was hailed as “excellent” and given four stars in The Scotsman and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2007 we received an incredible FIVE star review in The Herald for our adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories.Our adaption of P.R.Morrisson's novel The Wind Tamer was a great success gaining 4 stars in Edinburgh. There are no auditions or restrictions to membership apart from a commitment from members to support each other, have energy, enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and, above all, have a love of theatre in its widest sense. Many of the past members have successfully gone on to drama colleges, teacher training and some have returned to act as tutors. Meetings from September 2009 will take place at The Corn Exchange's venue at New Greenham Arts, 113 Lindenmuth Way, New Greenham Park, Newbury, RG19 6HN. Newbury Youth Theatre is affiliated to Berkshire Association of Clubs for Young People and a member of the National Association of Youth Theatres.
